2020 is proving to be mankind’s Ironman Triathlon. Because of what’s happening around the world, many are struggling to trust God right now. However, I came to the conclusion one must look through the eyes of faith, to see a much different perspective than what is before us. Why? Because your present situation does not dictate your final outcome. It may look all messed up. You may feel all messed up. But there is a blessing coming out of this mess. Because God is with you despite how it looks, how you feel or what others may or may not think they know.
“God is not dead…”
In this contemplation, a very dear friend sent me some encouraging words. And in so doing it is my sincerest hope they also encourage you. He prodded me first by writing: “God is not dead. Just keep your faith alive, be unshakable, pray more, I still pray for you, and I will always do. Read the Bible more often, I bet you will see his mightiness!” Then he adds “HERE ARE SIX REASONS YOU SHOULD TRUST GOD.”
The blood of Christ is priceless…
Reason 1: HE KNOWS YOU BY NAME. According to Isaiah 43:1. “But now, this is what the Lord says, he who created you, Jacob, he who formed you, Israel: “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” God’s favour and good-will to his people speak abundant comfort to all believers. The new creature, wherever it is, is of God’s forming. All who are redeemed with the blood of his Son, he has set apart for himself. Those that have God for them need not fear who or what can be against them. The blood of Christ is priceless and inexhaustible for the redemption of ALL mankind. True believers are precious in God’s sight, his delight is in them, above any people.
Reason 2: HE WILL FIGHT FOR YOU. In Exodus 14:14 we find… The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. It is always our duty and interest, when we cannot get out of troubles, to rise above our fears; let them quicken us to our knees and aspirations, but stir up our faith and hope. Stand still, like a soldier, at attention waiting for instructions. Think not to save yourselves either by fight or flight. Wait for God’s orders, and observe them. Compose yourselves, by confidence in God, into peaceful thoughts of the great salvation God is about to work for you.
…the Lord should think upon us…
Reason 3: HE THINKS ABOUT YOU. King David writes, “How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.” (Psalm 139:17-18) David is comforted, and even feels enriched, as with a coffer of precious jewels. That God should think upon him is the believer’s treasure and pleasure. He cries, “How costly, how valued are thy thoughts, how dear to me is thy perpetual attention!” He thinks upon God’s thoughts with delight; the more of them the better is he pleased. It is a joy worth worlds that the Lord should think upon us who are so poor and needy. It is a joy which fills our whole nature to think upon God; returning love for love, thought for thought, after our poor fashion.
Reason 4: HE HAS PLANS FOR YOU. The prophet writes, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, said the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11) “This deliverance will not depend upon your merits, but upon my own mercy and kind thoughts and purposes. I have for the seed of Abraham my servant, and I am resolved in my own thoughts what to do…”
…you are in the “straits of process”
How does this apply to you today? You may be in dire straits searching for an expedient outcome. But you are in the “straits of process” where your faith is being strengthened, according to the divine will of God for your life. Simply put, what you may think to be evil God will turn into something good in His timing. God dwells in eternity. Meaning He can bring the center of history from the future into the present age. That is what true biblical faith does, and why He is Emmanuel (God With Us). So if your hopes and faith are hanging by a thread—know that thread is in the hem of his garment and he can do all things but fail.
Reason 5: HE IS YOUR REFUGE. Again, king David writes, “He only is my rock and my salvation: he is my defence; I shall not be moved. In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.” (Psalm 62:6-8) We are in the way both of duty and comfort, when our souls wait upon God; when we cheerfully give up ourselves, and all our affairs, to his will and wisdom; when we leave ourselves to all the ways of his providence, and patiently expect the event, with full satisfaction in his goodness. For the Lord is good and his mercy endures forever.
…trust wholly in God.
Those who have found the comfort of the ways of God, will invite others into those ways. We shall never have the less for others sharing with us. The good counsel given is, to trust wholly in God. We must so trust in him at all times, as not at any time to put that trust in ourselves, or in any creature, which is to be put in him only. Trust in him to guide us when in doubt, to protect us when in danger, to supply us when in want, to strengthen us for every good word and work. We must lay our wants and our wishes before him, and then patiently submit our wills to his: this is pouring out our hearts as did Hannah. (I Samuel 1:9-18) God is a refuge for all, even for as many as will take shelter in him. (Psalm 46)
Reason 6: HE IS ALWAYS WITH YOU. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” (Matthew 28:18-20) “Lo, I am with you – That is, by my Spirit, my providence, my attending counsel and guidance. I will strengthen, assist, and direct you.” This also proves that Christ is divine and omnipresent.
So you see, it does not matter where you are. Even if you feel like you are the most isolated person on this planet battling Covid19 or not. Our Heavenly Father is right there, in the midst of the battle, with you and He has never lost one! If you are having difficulties trusting God in everything; here are at least six reasons why you should.
Thank you Alex for reminding us all of who we are and whose we are!
