My sister-in-law, Lola, is a very sweet and thoughtful soul. She sent me a package around Christmas week and I promised her to get into it when time permitted.

For those of you who do not know. I am a caregiver to my husband, Bobbie, who has been diagnosed with Dementia and late-onset Alzheimer’s. This task has proven very daunting and testing at times. While trying to keep the courage and encouragement in order to help him. Your emotions are always on a slippery slope. I thank God for prayer and who He is in my life. Oftentimes I feel like David. “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side…” (Psalm 124)

However, the package my sister-in-law sent was a book entitled Real-Life Encouragement for Caregivers. Finally had an opportunity to read it yesterday in its entirety. This book touched my heart in ways I never imagined. One minute had me crying and the next filled with joy and hope. It is sixty-four pages of power-packed Spiritual support on every level for a caregiver. This book does not leave anyone out. Especially when it comes to the emotions we feel.

For me, there are so many favorites in this book I can’t pick just one— but will share this passage with you from page thirty-four.

“The blues, the sadness you experience as a caregiver, don’t go unnoticed by our all-knowing Father. He knows. He cares. And Jesus is present to walk with you while drawing you closer to him. He offers a beyond-our-understanding peace (Philippians 4:7). He is the light that can break through and banish the darkest of blues (John 8:12). And he fills your days with joyful blessings—blessings that you can pass on to others (2 Corinthians 9:8).”

This book takes an honest look at the struggles of caregiving, as well as the joys and opportunities it brings. With eight chapters of hope, refreshment, practical tips, and Scripture-filled encouragement, this book will uplift and support all caregivers.
