Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage. (Galatians 5:1 NKJV)

GALATIANS 5 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Thought for the Week: Imagine a prisoner, in bondage for years, being set free from his cell. The guards escort him to the prison gates. He walks out of the prison yard, a free man. Then he hangs around the prison yard, fingers laced in the fence, staring with longing at the orange jumpsuits, the barbed wire, and the armed guards. He could go anywhere, but he chooses to hang around his former prison. What a ridiculous scenario! No one in his right mind would do that. But we do…Christ frees us, yet we choose to remain in slavery. He frees us, but we continue to do what we’ve always done, making the same mistakes we always make. Here Paul tells us not to do that. He tells us to stand firm so that we won’t be “subject to the yoke of slavery.” We stand firm, and we walk away from the prison yard.

Prayer: Lord, You have freed me from the yoke of slavery caused by my sin. Help me not to stay enslaved in the sin of my past. Help me to walk in the freedom You have given me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
