Alright, you avid movie watchers. Here are some good movies to watch for Thanksgiving—at least in our collection. Some good films to watch while waiting on the turkey or after you are stuffed. Just click on the pic or series title to see the trailer. We hope you enjoy it. View as many as you like.
1. Little Women is a 2019 American coming-of-age period drama film written and directed by Greta Gerwig. It is the seventh film adaptation of the 1868 novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. In the years after the Civil War, Jo March lives in New York and makes her living as a writer, while her sister Amy studies painting in Paris. Amy has a chance encounter with Theodore, a childhood crush who proposed to Jo but was ultimately rejected. Their oldest sibling, Meg, is married to a schoolteacher, while their shy sister Beth develops a devastating illness that brings the family back together. Not exactly your Thanksgiving movie, though so much of it takes place around the holidays and in the run-up to Christmas, and there are plenty of around-the-table scenes to give you that cozy feel — and make you feel thankful for your family. 2019|2h 15m|PG. Can be seen on STARZ, DIRECTV, The Roku Channel, ROW8, Prime Video, Vudu or Apple TV on your Roku device.
2. A Winnie the Pooh Thanksgiving (released on the DVD collection Winnie the Pooh: Season of Giving) is one of those few entries because it has two clear advantages over most of the “cartoon characters having Thanksgiving” stories. First, the animation quality is pretty good. Second, the plot about Pooh and his pals trying to put on a Thanksgiving dinner and their mistakes along the way fits the characters perfectly. The story involves Pooh, Piglet, and their friends planning a Thanksgiving dinner, but Rabbit insists they have to do it properly. While he figures out decorations, the others follow his instructions to find cranberries, a pumpkin, and a turkey. Not surprisingly, things do not go as planned. Ultimately though, Rabbit and the rest learn about what really matters at Thanksgiving: giving thanks. 1999|1h 10m|G. Can purchase the DVD on Amazon, and rent it on Vudu for $3.99.
3. Jim Henson’s Turkey Hollow. As part of the Thanksgiving holidays, a recently divorced man named Ron Emmerson (Jay Harrington) takes his children Tim (Graham Verchere) and Annie (Genevieve Buechner) to the farm of Ron’s eccentric Aunt Cly (Mary Steenburgen) in the town of Turkey Hollow which has no technology. Tim and Annie find themselves caught up in searching for the “Howling Hoodoo,” an elusive 10 ft. monster that has been considered a legend to the citizens of Turkey Hollow while also coming across the plot of the scheming neighbor Eldridge Slump (Linden Banks) and his farmworker minions Buzz (Gabe Khouth) and Junior (Peter New) that involves illegal turkeys activities and a plot for Eldridge to claim Aunt Cly’s farm. With the aid of some new creature friends named Squonk, Zorp, Burble, and Thring, the Emmersons must expose Slump’s plot and save the day. 2015|1h 28m|TV-PG. Can be seen on Disney+, or buy it on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Vudu.
4. Free Birds. Pardoned by the president, a lucky turkey (Owen Wilson) named Reggie gets to live a carefree lifestyle until fellow fowl Jake (Woody Harrelson) recruits him for a history-changing mission. Jake and Reggie travel back in time to the year 1621, just before the first Thanksgiving. The plan: Prevent all turkeys from ever becoming holiday dinners. Unfortunately, the two birds encounter colonist Myles Standish (Colm Meaney), out to capture feathered friends for all the hungry Pilgrims. 2013|1h 31m|PG. Determined to reclaim the retirement funds Shaw stole from them, they turn to a petty crook named Slide (Eddie Murphy) to help them break into Shaw’s home. 2011|1h 44m|PG-13. Trying new and innovative things, Anne makes decisions for her future. 2017|1h 28m|NR. Can be seen on Apple TV, Prime Video, and Vudu.
7. You’ve Got Mail. This 1998 classic romantic comedy finds a struggling boutique bookseller Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) hates Joe Fox (Tom Hanks), the owner of a corporate Foxbooks chain store that just moved in across the street. When they meet online, however, they begin an intense and anonymous Internet romance, oblivious of each other’s true identity. Eventually, Joe learns that the enchanting woman he’s involved with is actually his business rival. He must now struggle to reconcile his real-life dislike for her with the cyber love he’s come to feel. (Hint: There’s an iconic Thanksgiving grocery store scene you just can’t miss.) 1998|1h 59m|PG. Worse yet, he is forced to bunk up with talkative Del Griffith (John Candy), whom he finds extremely annoying. Together they must overcome the insanity of holiday travel to reach their intended destination. 1987|1h 33m|R. Linus suggests to a perplexed Charlie Brown that he could have two Thanksgiving dinners: the first at home for himself, Peppermint Patty, and the others, then a second at his grandmother’s.
