In the theological sense, pride is defined as an excessive love of one’s own excellence. As a deadly sin, pride is believed to generate other sins and further immoral behaviour and is countered by the heavenly virtue of humility. Whereas, arrogance, implies, taking much upon ourselves, and, is pride attended with insolence and contempt. Is it not written, “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6b NKJV)
Almighty God, creator of Heaven and Earth, awesome is Your power, and meek am I. Please bolster my faith to trust in Your design, and let me not stray from Your light in either pride or arrogance. Father, please help me to see myself as You do—as a broken, imperfect human in need of your forgiveness. Give me the love, compassion, and humility to understand my limitations. Please grant me the power and courage to overcome this sin by indwelling me with Your Holy Spirit. I ask that You grant me the courage and strength to withstand the need to be arrogant. I also ask that You fill my head with Your truth and wisdom. I ask in the sanctity of Your Holy Name, Amen.
Father God, make me humble & full of grace.
