“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. (Matthew 23:27-28 NKJV)
Thought For The Week: During Jesus’ time, tombs were caves or rock piles scattered across the countryside. They were beautifully washed and painted with lime to appear white and clean. The tombs were lovely on the outside, but we know what rested within. Jesus calls the Israel leaders hypocrites, stating they go above and beyond to appear flawless on the outside when darkness resides inside their hearts. They weren’t genuine in their worship and teachings to the people. We do not want to be hypocritical when witnessing for the Lord. We must continue to seek God’s instruction as we mature in faith and rid our hearts of sin.
Prayer: Dear God, we do not want to appear hypocritical as we witness in Your name. Please strengthen our faith and guide us to maturity as we continue our walk with You. In Jesus’ Holy Name, amen.
