“I can help you but it’s up to you how you finish.”
Synopsis: While navigating struggles at home and his high school, a teen with autism befriends a champion runner and trains for a marathon.

Tyson (Major Dodson) has always been home-schooled by his mother until one day she could not solve an algebra problem. Tyson is autistic but on the spectrum of genius. He wants to go to school to be near his dad Coach Bobby Dodson (Rory Cochrane) who is the football coach of a winning championship team. After a strong debate between his parents, he is allowed to go to school and his first day in Biology class is the only one who knows the right answer to a question the teacher asks. He gets bullied by a guy who invites him to sit down at the lunch table with him—only for this guy to push the chair out from under poor Tyson who ends up wearing his entire food tray on his shirt. But Shannon (Layla Felder helps him up and invites him over to her table to eat and quickly becomes a true friend.
While helping his father straighten up after the football team, Tyson befriends champion marathon runner Aklilu (Barkhad Abdi) and starts running with him. After seeing a commercial on TV about the city’s first Marathon he is determined to run this marathon in hopes of winning his father’s approval. His dad tries to deter him but Tyson becomes even more determined and asks Aklilu “Can you train me to win?” To which Aililu replies, “I can help you but it’s up to you how you finish.”
Will Tyson be able to blend in with his classmates? Will he be able to train in time to run in the Marathon? You will have to watch the movie to find out.

We give Tyson’s Run
This movie is Forrest Gump meets Rain Man. Based on a true story, Tyson’s Run is the first movie that uses a real autistic actor to play the part and Major Dodson did very well in the role. This film shows, to some degree, what families who have autistic children go through. It also gives an example of bullying that some children have to face and also teaches us, as parents. that sometimes we have to re-prioritize our priorities—especially when it comes to family. You can’t always take what people say for face value. Tyson’s Run is a good example of how a little faith mixed with passion can carry you a long way and when you stand for right sometimes you stand alone. Yet God is there. A great film for family night.
