But How You Finish
Sometimes we find ourselves comparing our beginnings to someone else’s middle or end. We see people who seem to have it all together, who are successful, who have achieved their dreams, and we wonder how they got there. We may even feel discouraged by our own slow progress or setbacks along the way. But the truth is, it’s not how you start that matters, but how you finish.

I recently had a conversation with a lady who, like me, is fortunate to work from home. She shared how she enjoys having her puppies around while she works, but also expressed her disbelief at how some people can work from home every day without distractions. I shared with her that as a writer and a computer geek, I spend most of my time writing books, working on my website, and spending time with my granddaughter. Despite our differences, we found common ground in our passion for creativity.
She shared with me her idea of writing a children’s book about each dog she had rescued through her rescuing efforts. I encouraged her to pursue her passion, reminding her that writing requires both passion and discipline. Some days, the words flow effortlessly, while other days, it may feel like pulling teeth. But the key is to keep writing, even if it’s just jotting down a single idea.
I shared with her a piece of advice that has helped me on my own writing journey – Don’t give up on the ship before you’ve even left the port. She said she only had a couple of planks. Encouragement spoke and told her “well at least you started.” I reminded her that it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the enormity of a project or the uncertainty of the outcome. But progress is made one step at a time, one word at a time. It’s important to stay committed to your goals and not let setbacks or doubts derail your journey.

So, whether you’re just starting out on a new project, a new career, or a new chapter in your life, remember that it’s not how you start that matters, but how you finish. Stay focused, stay determined, and keep moving forward. The journey may be long and challenging, but the destination will be worth it. Embrace the process, embrace the journey, and remember that success is not defined by how quickly you reach your goals, but by the perseverance and determination you show along the way.
Thank you for your continued support and readership. Until next week…Blessings and Peace!
