Two days into the month of December already! Only twenty-nine days left in this year and 2024 is history. Everyone is starting to pull out their Christmas decorations. Everything from wreaths on their front doors to the Nativity in their front yard.
The two holidays that are foremost in everyone’s minds for December are Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Would you believe the month of December has 223 special days of awareness and observances to celebrate! You couldn’t make all of those parties if you wanted to. So you’ll just have to dig in that ornament box and choose what you want to do. This entire month is the Month of Giving, National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, Worldwide Food Service Safety Month, Spiritual Literacy Month, National Safe Toy and Gift Month, National Write a Business Plan Month, National Tie Month, and Universal Human Rights Month. For those who are conscientious about education, today is National Skip School Day, the start of National Handwashing Awareness Week, December 6 is National Influenza Vaccination Week and December 12 is Universal Health Coverage Day. The die-hard Disney fan will be happy that December 6 is also Walt Disney Day. We writers have to pay homage to National Letter Writing Day on December 7 and Dewey Decimal System Day on December 10 which helps us find the books we authors write. All food critics will welcome National Fritters Day today, National Cookie Day on December 4, Sacher-Torte Day on December 5, and my special favorite National Brownie Day on December 8; just to name a few.
Whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa, never forget National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance, U.S. National Guard Birthday on December 13, National Wreaths Across America Day; on December 18, and Pledge of Allegiance Day on December 28. These “Days” are a culmination of lives sacrificed defending our liberties and the basis of those liberties. Freedom isn’t free.
A little December trivia. The Anglo-Saxons referred to December–January as Ġēolamonaþ (modern English: “Yule month”).
As you battle the bad bots while shopping online or fighting the crowds in your favorite stores let us not forget that Jesus is the reason for the season. You cannot have Christmas without Christ whether you say Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays it is all relative to His name.
May the month ahead sprinkle your spirit with the joyous of blessings, and the purity of the Spirit of the Living God blanket and warm your heart with an abundance of peace, love, hope, good health, prosperity and happiness.
