What do you define as a Christian Film? Does it solely pertain to films that convey a powerful gospel message, such as the classic Cecil B. DeMille movies? Alternatively, does it also encompass films that, while not directly quoting Scripture, explore biblical themes such as forgiveness and redemption? Furthermore, how do we consider the numerous films produced by Christian filmmakers and supported by faith-based studios that, despite lacking overt sermons, still offer inspiration?
Hopefully in this upcoming top 10 list you will find a cinematic mixture of all the above…
1. Gloria Gaynor: I Will Survive
The renowned music icon and Grammy Award-winning artist Gloria Gaynor embarked on an extensive journey to create a gospel album. The documentary chronicles the challenges she faced throughout her life, including financial difficulties, health issues, and a divorce, alongside her numerous achievements. “I have reached a point of joy and self-fulfillment, and I am prepared to share my insights with the world on how to not just survive, but to thrive,” Gaynor expressed. Can be seen on Amazon Prime Video.
2. Ordinary Angels
A hairdresser mobilizes a community and a church to support a widower whose young daughter is gravely ill. This film, inspired by a true story, takes place in Louisville, Kentucky, during the 1990s. Alan Ritchson portrays the widower, Ed Schmitt, while two-time Academy Award winner Hilary Swank plays the role of the hairdresser, Sharon Stevens. It stands out as one of the most uplifting films I have ever encountered. The production was handled by Kingdom Story Company, known for works such as Jesus Revolution and I Can Only Imagine. The film is rated PG due to its thematic elements, brief graphic imagery, and depiction of smoking. Can be seen on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV from $5.99, Fandago at Home from $5.99, Google Play Movies from $5.99, Hulu, Philo, The Ruko Channel, Sling TV, Stars, YouTube and YouTube TV.
3. Cabrini
In the late 19th century, an Italian woman moves to New York City, confronting racism and sexism while dedicating her life to helping the underprivileged and founding a hospital. This film tells the true story of Maria Francesca Cabrini, affectionately known as “Mother Cabrini.” Her organization has been crucial in establishing hospitals, orphanages, and educational institutions worldwide. (This is revealed during the credits.) Angel Studios is set to release this film, anticipated to be their best yet, surpassing Sound of Freedom. Directed by Alejandro Monteverde, known for Bella and Sound of Freedom, it promises an extraordinary cinematic experience. Can be seen on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and Fandago at Home — all from $5.99.
4. Forty-Seven Days with Jesus
Facing marital challenges and the complexities of raising teenagers, a family embarks on a spiritual journey exploring the last 47 days of Jesus’ life. The film stars Yoshi Barrigas and Catherine Lidstone from The Chosen, with Cameron Arnett as Pontius Pilate and Joshua Triplett as Peter. Producer Kristen Brancaccio noted that the film “radiates hope,” serving as “a gentle, non-judgmental reminder to pause and reflect on what truly matters.” Can be seen on Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV for $9.99, Fandago at Home from $3.99, Google Play Movies from $3.99, The Roku Channel, and YouTube from $3.99.
5. Someone Like You
A young man copes with the tragic loss of his best friend and discovers she had an unknown sister. To honor her memory, he sets out to find the sister and reveal her hidden family. This film, adapted from Karen Kingsbury’s novel of the same name, is the first of her works to receive a wide theatrical release. Produced by Karen Kingsbury Productions, it explores themes of reconciliation and redemption. Can be seen on Amazon Prime Video from $3.99, Apple TV from $4.99, Fandago at Home from $3.99, and Google Play Movie from $3.99.
Here are the first five. We will conclude this list next week. So all of you movie buffs stay tuned. Thank you for your continued readership and support. Until next week…Blessings and Peace!

I knew we had something in common—I am a native of Frankfort, Ky. — your neighbor. Usually when I fly home I go to Louisville airport—rent a car and drive home. Perhaps the next time I fly in will come visit. Who knows…
