Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life. (Galatians 6:7-8 NKJV)
Thought for the Week: Most of us, at one time or another, have heard the saying, “What goes around comes around.” This adage is a reflection of the biblical principle of sowing and reaping as it pertains to this particular scripture. Here the apostle Paul reminds us that whatever we so, we shall also reap.
The choices we make in our daily lives can be denoted as sowing. Be it an action, word or thought can be considered a seed that we plant—not just today, but everyday. And when we sow to the flesh—meaning to entertain our fleshly desires by pursuing the pleasures of this world we reap corruption. We experience the brokenness, dissatisfaction and emptiness in our lives. However, if we sow to the Spirit by prioritizing the things of God in seeking His will, we reap eternal life. And will experience the fulness of His blessings, His peace that passes all understanding, His unspeakable joy and purposeful fulfillment.
Is it emphatic that we understand the consequences of our choices. At times, we may be tempted to compromise our morals or take shortcuts to achieve success or temporal pleasures. But we must be mindful that these momentary gains pales in comparison to the eternal rewards that are the benefactors from sowing in the Spirit. Therefore, we must be conscientious in cultivating our minds, hearts, and actions. Let us sow seeds of love, forgiveness, kindness and obedience to the word of God. And in so doing we align ourselves with His purposes and also invite His abundance of blessings into our lives.
Prayer: Most Holy Father, thank You for reminding us that our actions DO have consequences. Please help us sow seeds that not only honor You but also reflect Your character. May we not be deceived by the unfruitful enticement of wordly pleasures, but in holiness make righteous choices to sow to the Spirit. Guide us in making choices that align with Your will for our lives and brings glory to Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
