Live Like You Were Dying

by Tim Nichols and Craig Wiseman

I hadn’t been by the library in a long time—as a matter of fact, I hadn’t been in there since Bobbie passed. That was a place he and I frequented. Usually on a hunt for some dvd that he would like or a book for sale that was in my writing genre. The library’s been renovated but some of the old bones are still there and recognizable.

One of the librarians took me to the Christian Books section and I found a couple of books that I could purchase. One of them was Live Like You Were Dying.

The Foreword is by Tim McGraw and in it he says, “I hope this song can provide inspiration for all of us to stop and take time to appreciate all the blessings in our lives—from the smallest things to the biggest dreams.”

This 64-page unnumbered book is divided into four sections—“Live Like You Are Dying” is section one and in it there are all kinds of nuggets of inspiration—“Pick up that smooth, cool stone that has been hidden in your soul for so long and prepare to shatter the still, glassy status quo forever. Now close your eyes and complete the most important sentence you may ever speak. I am.”

Section 2 entitled “And I Loved Deeper” which is all about love there is a page where the writer says, “You Are Beautiful… When you let friends have their space. When you believe. When you laugh or are moved by tears. When you let it just roll off your back. When you talk about your dreams. When you help a turtle across the road. When you try to do the right thing even when it comes out wrong. You are beautiful when you LOVE.”

Section 3 entitled “And I Spoke Sweeter.” This struck a chord in me…“You know…I realized that I was so quick to tell everyone else they should chase their dreams; they could FLY as high as they wanted; there was nothing they couldn’t do; that a Whole New Life was waiting for them to live. But I had never given that advice to myself…”

Section 4 entitled “and I gave Forgiveness I’d been denying.” Forgive….Forget For Life, For Love, Forever, Amen! The next page reads…Boy, would you do me a favor? Just let it go. And at the conclusion of the next page it says…Take all of that forgiveness locked up deep inside you and Just let it go. And then you can give the forgiveness you’ve been denying.”

We give Live Like You Are Dying

Rating: 4.5 out of 5.

This is a very inspirational little book that is a quick read with beautiful photos and a lot of encouraging words that are food for thought. And as an added bonus you get a CD of the song that was inspired by this book and sung by none other than Tim McGraw.
