91 days into 2025 and we are headed for April on warp speed. Time is a commodity that must be used wisely—once this day is spent it will never come again. Today being Edible Book Day; I suppose you better eat them while you can those good books may be gone before you know it! There is a method behind the madness of this celebration…an event to commemorate the birthday of the famous gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin, a French lawyer and politician, famous for his book “Physiologie du goût.”
As we approach the much-anticipated Easter celebration, the excitement in the air is palpable. From the colorful Easter baskets to the adorable bunny rabbits and the abundance of sweet treats, it’s hard to miss the signs of this joyous occasion. But did you know that amidst all the Easter festivities, there are a staggering 257 celebratory days this month alone? That’s right, 257 reasons to celebrate, with 45 of them falling on April 1st! You’ll have to stop by Peter Cottontail for the full list.

From Autism Awareness Month to National Donate Life Month, Scottish-American Heritage Month to Month of the Military Child, there is no shortage of important causes and celebrations to recognize in April. And let’s not forget the literary enthusiasts among us, with Edible Book Day and National Library Week kicking off the month with a bang.

For the poets and writers, there are plenty of days to showcase your talents, from National Encourage a Young Writer Day to International Haiku Poetry Day and World Book Day. And for those with a sweet tooth, mark your calendars for National Cinnamon Crescent Day, National Peach Cobbler Day, National Pineapple Upside-Down Cake Day, National Cherry Cheesecake Day, National Blueberry Pie Day, and National Oatmeal Cookie Day – a dessert lover’s dream!

But as we immerse ourselves in the festivities of April, let us not forget the true reason for the season. As we approach Palm Sunday and Holy Week, we are reminded of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on the cross for our sins, leading to the ultimate celebration of Resurrection Sunday (better known as Easter) – the resurrection of our Savior and the promise of eternal life. So as we indulge in Easter eggs and chocolate bunnies, let us also take a moment to reflect on the profound significance of this season and the gift of salvation it brings.
A little April Trivia: “Aperire”: The name “April” comes from the Latin word “aperire,” which means “to open” or “to blossom,” reflecting the springtime nature of the month. April has two birth flowers. Both the daisy and the sweet pea are considered birth flowers for the month of April. The sweet pea signifies blissful pleasure, while daisies represent childhood innocence, loyalty, and purity.
May we all have a happy and peaceful month of April. As the rains pour may God shower us with His many blessings, May He forever guide us and protect us on His righteous path, and may we be forever grateful for the abundant love He has shown us all. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
Happy New Month! Blessings and Peace!
