To Write This Darn Book?
I’ve been working on one specific book for oh….over 5 years. And it’s not because I haven’t desired to finish it. Nor was it an advanced case of writer’s block—I don’t believe in it. Lord knows it’s been a struggle all the way to the bitter end. And please don’t judge me.
While writing this book, I’ve written two others—Where In Oz Is The Church: Are you on the right path? and Faithwalkers: How to Survive in the Desert of Hopelessness. Those two books, I admittingly wrote not knowing the ins and outs of self-publishing. Nor did I have any type of marketing strategies, but I wanted to get my feet wet nonetheless.
In this tenet, I was using my own advice by going to another project until I could once again return with fresh material to complete my first masterpiece. One I thought would’ve been completed by now, only to find myself needing a life preserver every step of the way.

At the last minute, I had to add another unsuspecting chapter. Then, after weeks of editing, I thought my book was now ready for press, only when I uploaded the file to the publisher, it somehow managed to get entirely deleted from my computer and all of the associated files with it. The nightmare was that it could not be found anywhere. As if it never existed. I’d been saving it to a junk drive in phases, but didn’t have the complete manuscript- I’ll never do that again!
You see, I always transpose my manuscript from Word to book form in Adobe InDesign. Normally, InDesign saves the file even if it is deleted, but it had only saved the partial book.

I then had to acquire some data-mining software to try and find some remnants of my book, only to discover that when this software recovered the book, it couldn’t be converted to readable material. I cried, and cried, and cried. Scouring my computer files like 007. This went on for about a week. Until…
One day, I saw these odd-looking files, something said “click on this” and there my lovely manuscript was in all of its glory. I was so happy I didn’t know what to do! Even though I had to go through and make numerous corrections and adjustments, my work had survived!
Needless to say, a month later, I’ve got perhaps 20 more pages to go through, and Understanding the Seasons of Your Destiny should be ready to go.
Now I’m saving the book four different ways—never to be lost again.
Now that you’ve gotten a chuckle….Get back to those darn keys and create!
Thank you for your continued readership and support. Until next week…Blessings and Peace!

Oh wow, this sounds just like my situation! I’ve been working on my book for the past six months, though technically, I wrote the first draft about 15 years ago. A lot has changed since then, both in the world and in me as a writer. Lately, it’s been a cycle of reading, writing, and revising, on repeat. I’ve probably read the first 50 pages a thousand times, obsessing over every detail to make sure there aren’t any inconsistencies. And the deeper I get into it, the more new ideas come to me, which sends me back again to make sure everything flows and still makes sense. The hardest part is behind me: I wrote the book. And now, I’ve got tools at my fingertips, like proofreading and editing software, that didn’t even exist 15 years ago, which definitely helps. I also published two poetry books back in 2011 and 2013. Honestly, they were awful 🤣 I’m totally embarrassed by them now! But hey, we live and learn. God speed on your book ♥️🙏🏽

What I’ve found is that all writers have something in common. The longer you stay in that book the more modifications you’re going to make and unexpected additions from light bulb discoveries. Get out while you can. You must escape before it’s too late. (lol) When you get a chance please read https://rhemalogy.com/2024/10/20/when-is-editing-enough/. Thanks for stopping by. Have a blessed new week!
