*Sunday’s Devotion

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:” (Luke 6:37 NKJV)

LUKE 6 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Thought For The Week: This quote from Luke 6:37 teaches the principle of reciprocity in how we treat others: the standards we apply to them will ultimately be applied to us. Rather than condemning others, the passage encourages compassion, self-reflection, and forgiveness.

Jesus is not forbidding all forms of discernment, but is specifically cautioning against a harsh, hypocritical, and self-righteous attitude that condemns others. This kind of judgment elevates oneself at the expense of another and is often rooted in pride.

By choosing to forgive others, we open ourselves up to receiving forgiveness in return, liberating both ourselves and those who have wronged us from the weight of resentment.

This lesson is an invitation to focus on personal growth and self-improvement before trying to fix others. It promotes a spirit of grace and understanding, reminding us to approach people with the same mercy we would want for ourselves.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, You have taught us not to judge, and so we come to you now, asking for a heart that reflects your own mercy. Help us release the judgments we hold toward others and the critical spirit we may harbor. Instead of condemning, give us compassionate hearts. Remind us of our own need for forgiveness so that we may readily offer it to others, just as you have freely forgiven us. Let our words and thoughts be filled with grace and understanding. Help us to see others through your eyes, with love and patience. In Jesus’ name, amen.

    1. But in spite of it all, we must treat others the way Christ has taught us to. Sometimes that’s a hard pill to swallow. But if we do what is right — right will always follow us no matter the timing. Be and stay blessed.

  1. As you note, “Jesus is not forbidding all forms of discernment.” In fact, just a few verses later he says, “For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit.”
The Matthew passage is even more interesting. After saying “Judge not…” he warns not to give holy things to dogs nor throw pearls to pigs!😉
