A good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children,
But the wealth of the sinner is stored up for the righteous.
(Proverbs 13:22 NKJV)

PROVERBS 13 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Thought For The Week: This proverb offers a powerful lesson on long-term perspective and the nature of true wealth. It challenges us to look beyond immediate gain and consider the legacy we are building. The “good person” is not simply someone with money, but a person of virtue who lives with integrity and seeks God’s wisdom. Their actions create a ripple effect of blessings that last for generations.

While the verse mentions financial inheritance, the most valuable inheritance is not material but spiritual. The godly character you model for your family—faithfulness, generosity, and trust in the Lord—is a treasure that cannot be lost to inflation, thieves, or foolishness. This kind of legacy is built one faithful choice at a time: the way you model patience in a storm, the grace you offer when wronged, and the love you show in your home.

In stark contrast, the sinner’s wealth is temporary. The proverb’s second half assures us that riches gained through sinful or selfish means will not endure. The story of the Israelites taking the wealth of the Egyptians is a prime biblical example of this principle, showing that God ultimately transfers resources from the wicked to the righteous. This isn’t a promise of a future financial windfall, but a divine assurance that justice will prevail and that money is ultimately a tool for God’s purposes, not our selfish ones.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the promise that faithfulness echoes through generations. Give me the wisdom to live a life of integrity and generosity. Help me see beyond the temporary riches of this world and to invest in a spiritual inheritance for my family. Heal the generational hurts in my own life so that I may pass on wholeness instead of brokenness. May my life be a legacy that points to you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
