*Sunday’s Devotion

“The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s; but the earth He has given to the children of men.” (Psalm 115:16, NKJV)

Thought For The Week: In this single verse, the Psalmist presents a profound truth about God’s sovereignty and our responsibility. The passage contrasts the infinite domain of God with the specific, entrusted sphere of humanity. It is a powerful reminder of our place in the created order and our purpose on this planet.

The verse begins by affirming God’s absolute ownership and control over the cosmos: “The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD’s”. This speaks to His infinite majesty and His ability to do whatever He pleases. Unlike the lifeless idols described earlier in the Psalm, our God is active, sovereign, and entirely in charge of the heavenly realms. This truth should inspire awe and humble reverence.

This is not an abdication of His control, but an invitation to partnership. We are stewards, not ultimate owners. We have the privilege—and the duty—to operate in His authority, making decisions that reflect His heart and character. The current state of the world, with its wars and environmental issues, highlights how often we mismanage this trust; yet, we can walk in the authority given to us through Christ to battle darkness and declare God’s kingdom on earth.

We must always remember that He is in control of all things, especially when life seems chaotic. We should embrace our stewardship by recognizing the gifts we have been given in the earth and managing it thoughtfully, with gratitude and responsibility, and never take His provision for granted. Live a life of worship and gratitude while you still have breath.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of this earth and the authority You have entrusted to us. Teach us to be faithful stewards of Your creation and to walk in the authority You have provided through Jesus. May our lives be a reflection of Your glory, from this time forth and forevermore. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
