July 2nd regales 13 celebrations—Fast of Shiva Asar B’Tammuz, Freedom From Fear of Speaking Day, I Forgot Day, Made In The USA Day, National Anisette Day, National Anthem and Flag Day in Curaçao, National Disco Day, National Lint Awareness Day, National Report Military Fraud Day, Special Recreation for the Disabled Day, Thirsty Thursday, World Sports Journalists Day, and World UFO Day.
Since this is a faith-based website with a Writing Tips category, I thought we’d focus on writing today and celebrate World Sports Journalists Day with a little history lesson.

On July 2, 1924, 80 journalists representing 29 different countries gathered in Paris. The setting for their historic first meeting was literally inside a boxing ring at the Sporting Club de France. The Paris Olympic Games were set to begin just three days later. With the city completely packed, a vacant boxing venue provided the perfect makeshift amphitheater for the reporters to organize. July 2, 1924, was the day the International Sports Press Association (AIPS) was founded.
Why is this bit of historical information important? World Sports Journalists Day was established in 1994 by the International Sports Press Association (AIPS).
The association created the holiday to mark its 70th anniversary and to recognize the achievements and contributions of sports reporters worldwide.
