Seems like this year is moving at warp speed. July just got here, and it’s already the 13th day. I believe it was Geoffrey Chaucer who said, “Time and tide wait for no man.” And at the rate that time is passing, I am inclined to agree with him. So, whatever plans you decreed for this year, might I suggest you check to make sure you’re on point. For it was Picasso who also said…”Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone.”
So, taking this post to task in a timely fashion. Today there are 12 celebrations. Here are just a few: Beef Tallow Day, Embrace Your Geekness Day, Gruntled Workers Day, International Town Criers Day, National Barbershop Music Appreciation Day, National Paul Day, National Rock Day, National Tile Repair Day, and Sovereignty Day of Montenegro.

For those of us who like taking an occasional trip down Nostalgia Avenue, today we’re celebrating NATIONAL BEANS ‘N’ FRANKS DAY. National Beans ‘N’ Franks Day is celebrated every July 13. It honors the classic American comfort food that’s also known as “beanie weenies.” A dish that combines baked beans with sliced hot dogs or frankfurters. Believe it or not, this holiday dates back to the mid-19th century. While baked beans were a staple on American chuckwagons and during the Civil War, no one knows exactly when inventive cooks first tossed chopped hot dogs into the mix. However, it exploded in popularity as a convenient, budget-friendly meal during the Great Depression and World War II.

We have to include the creative minds in today’s celebration, known as Fool’s Paradise Day. It’s not what it sounds like…Fool’s Paradise Day is a whimsical, unofficial holiday that encourages you to step away from daily pressures, escape into your imagination, and focus on self-care. The term dates back to 1462, appearing in the historic Paston Letters and later in William Shakespeare‘s Romeo and Juliet. So enjoy a good book, watch your favorite film, visit your favorite art gallery, or just meditate.
Whatever you choose to celebrate today, make time to enjoy it. After all, the days keep flying by—so please make this one count.
Father, thank You for the gift of another day and the reminder that time is precious. Help us to use each moment wisely, to pursue the purpose You’ve placed before us, and not delay the good we are called to do. Amid today’s celebrations, grant us joyful hearts, grateful spirits, and moments of laughter and rest. Refresh our minds, inspire our creativity, and help us care for ourselves and one another with kindness. May we make the most of this day, trusting You to guide our steps. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
