Today is Hot Enough For Ya Day, and if you’re living in Florida, you feel like you’re becoming a desert person. Last week we had a heat index of 110. Ironically, you’d think when the rain comes it would cool things off, right? Wrong. You see steam rising off the road, and then humidity moves in. I told someone the other day I don’t think we had spring- Florida didn’t get the memo. It went from Winter right to Summer. Whew! If you’re planning to vacation here, wait until late August or September when the temperatures are more agreeable, and crowds are not so thick.
If it’s hot enough for ya, then you’ll need National Refreshment Day, which is included in the 14 celebrations for today—Apolinario Mabini Day, Fast of Ninth of Av, International Yada Yada Yada Day, National Gorgeous Grandma Day, National Women Touched By Addiction Day, PANAFEST, Pflasterspektakel Linz, and World Sjogren’s Day.

For this next list, all you healthy eaters better RUN!!! Today is also National Sprinkle Day and National Vanilla Ice Cream Day; love a dob of vanilla ice cream atop a slice of pecan pie or a heated brownie—yummy! And saving the best for last, we have Peanut Butter and Chocolate Day, which celebrates the ultimate sweet-and-salty combination, made iconic by the invention of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups in 1928.

With iconic in mind, we can’t wrap up this list of celebrations without including Comic Con, short for “comic book convention.” This is a multi-day fan convention dedicated to comic books, movies, television shows, video games, anime, and pop culture. They serve as massive celebrations where fans gather to shop for exclusive merchandise, meet celebrities, attend sneak-preview panels, and participate in cosplay.

While the most famous and largest event in the world is Comic-Con International: San Diego (SDCC), other massive events take place globally and locally. In Florida, for example, fans frequently attend events like Tampa Bay Comic Con (facebook.com) at the Tampa Convention Center or the Dunedin Fine Art Center (DFAC Con)
Heavenly Father, thank You for every season, whether it’s the blazing summer heat, refreshing rain, or the moments in between. Help us to find joy in the simple blessings You give each day—a cool treat, time with loved ones, and opportunities to laugh and celebrate. As we enjoy today’s festivities, remind us that Your love is the greatest refreshment for our hearts. May we share Your kindness wherever we go and give You thanks in every season. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
