As we begin this Tuesday, August 4, I see joggers in the neighborhood running about, although it’s partly cloudy and looks like it will start raining at any time. And if you are among those joggers, you might not know that today Canadians are observing Terry Fox Day, an annual civic holiday observed in Manitoba and some other Canadian provinces on the first Monday of August to commemorate the life, courage, and legacy of Canadian cancer activist Terry Fox and his historic 1980 Marathon of Hope.
This is just one of the 21 observances we have for today, including Assistance Dog Day, British Columbia Day, Civic Holiday, International Clouded Leopard Day, Matice Slovenska Day, National Night Out, New South Wales Bank Holiday, and National Allotments Week. For the complete list, please visit Lena the leopard.

Today is also Hooray for Kids Day. It is a joyful day to celebrate children, let kids lead the fun, and remind adults to embrace their inner playfulness. Here I am reminded of the phrase “Forever Young,” which means to keep a youthful spirit, energy, and positive attitidue regardless of one’s physical age. It is most famous from classic songs by artists like Bob Dylan, Alphaville, and Rod Stewart.
And for all those children who come from single-family homes, we must remember Single Working Women’s Day. Celebrated annually on August 4 to honor the economic and social contributions of single career women, highlighting figures like founder Barbara Payne and addressing workplace biases.
Heavenly Father, thank You for inspiring us through lives of courage like Terry Fox, for the joy and faith of children, and for the strength of single working women. Bless all who serve, sacrifice, and persevere today. Help us to live with hope, compassion, and youthful hearts that trust in You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
