Coming to you from the Bluegrass State of Kentucky on this beautiful 7th day of August. Almost forgot how beautiful home is. Rolling green hills filled with beautiful trees and immaculately cut lawns of prestigious horse farms. The bustling of businesses. Just a reminder that today is Cycle to Work Day for those who are health-conscious going to work. I tip my hat to you—especially in this hot climate. Keep pedaling, not just to get to work but to better health!

Speaking of work…Today is also Aged Care Employee Day. Observed annually on August 7 to celebrate the hundreds of thousands of dedicated workers, nurses, personal carers, volunteers, and support staff who support older individuals in residential facilities, retirement living, and home care

After poking fun, let’s get serious for a moment. Today is also Purple Heart Day, which is observed every year on August 7. On August 7, 1782, General George Washington created the first award. It was called the Badge of Military Merit. It honors the brave U.S. service members who have been wounded or killed in combat. It is the oldest military award still given to soldiers today. Let us not forget our courageous servicemen and women who are in battle right now, nor their families.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the beauty of Kentucky, the blessings of home, and the people who faithfully serve others each day. Today, we honor cyclists, caregivers, and especially the brave men and women who have earned the Purple Heart through sacrifice and courage. Bless them all with Your strength, protection, and peace. May we live each day with grateful hearts and steadfast faith. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
