Welcome, Wacky Wednesday!

Well, today is August 19th. Twelve more days, and this month will take its exit until next year. Can you believe there are 134 days remaining until 2026 ends? I was telling someone yesterday that I cannot wait for the brisk air of fall to blow away all this hot, humid weather in Land O’ Lakes, Florida. I am not a cold climate person, but it has been an exceptionally gruelling summer this year. Does anybody remember it being this hot?

Anywho, there are only 15 celebrations today, which include Afghanistan Independence Day, Crown Princess Mette-Marit’s Day, International Bow Day, International Orangutan Day, JUVÉDERM Day, National Potato Day, Revolution Commemoration Day, Qixi Festival, and World Humanitarian Day. For the complete list, pick up some French fries at our drive-thru.

Speaking of food, some are celebrating the Saviours of the Apple Feast Day today. Also called Apple Spas (Yablochny Spas), it is an Eastern Slavic folk holiday blending pre-Christian harvest traditions with the Christian Feast of the Transfiguration. Celebrated on August 19 (or August 6, depending on the local church calendar), it marks the changing seasons, the arrival of autumn, and the blessing of the first apple harvest.

It is the second of three August “Saviour” celebrations, nestled between the Honey Feast (August 14) and the Nut Feast (August 29). Okay bakers, gather your freshest apples, bake a delicious treat, and share the bounty with friends and family.

Heavenly Father, give us strength and patience to keep pressing forward through the rest of 2026. Refresh our spirits as You refresh the seasons, and remind us that Your grace is sufficient for each day. May we trust Your timing, find joy in the simple blessings around us, and finish this year with faith, gratitude, and hope. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
