Today is my Friday…But for the rest of those working classes…Happy Friday Eve! A term I just recently became acquainted with. Who knew? I suppose right now would be a good time to celebrate National Just Because Day. It is an annual unofficial holiday celebrated on August 27 that encourages people to do things spontaneously and perform random acts of kindness without needing a specific reason or justification.

And just because there are only ten more celebrations today, let’s run down the list…Crab Soup Day, International Lottery Day, Lyndon Baines Johnson Day, Moldova Independence Day, National Petroleum Day, National Pots De Creme Day, Spirit Festival, and Ullambana.

For those of us who enjoy culinary delights…Today we celebrate National Burger Day. Listen, there is nothing like a well-made hamburger. When I saw this celebration, my mind went back to a mom-and-pop restaurant in Memphis, Tennessee, that served one of the best cheeseburgers on the planet! Being from Kentucky, back in the day, the place to get a really good burger with its own unique taste was Frisch’s Big Boy. I tried going back down memory lane when I recently visited home—that burger doesn’t taste like it used to. But Culver’s comes pretty darn close. What’s your favorite burger place?

For the writers and readers in this bunch, we celebrate The Duchess Who Wasn’t Day. This unofficial holiday is celebrated every year on August 27 to honor that prolific Irish writer, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford. She wrote light romance novels under the pseudonym “The Duchess” (also the title of one of her popular books), playfully inspiring the “who wasn’t” part of the holiday’s name since she was not a real royal. She is widely credited with coining the phrase “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” in her 1878 novel Molly Bawn.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the simple joys and unexpected blessings of life. Just because You love us, help us love others, share kindness freely, and find reasons to celebrate the goodness You place before us.
