James 1:12 says, Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love him.

And it is a proven fact that we, as writers, have to persevere so many times beyond our own minds and the approval of others that sometimes we find ourselves in the Twilight Zone. But today I wanted to give your minds encouragement. So let’s see what some famous authors have to say about perseverance…

Samuel Johnson: “Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.” He emphasized that steady, ongoing effort matters more than raw power

James A. Michener: “Character consists of what you do on the third and fourth tries.” He noted that true grit shows up only after the initial attempts fail.

Angela Duckworth: In Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance, she explains that long-term stamina for your goals is a better predictor of high achievement than innate talent alone

Johann Wolfgang von Goethe: “In the realm of ideas, everything depends on enthusiasm… in the real world, all rests on perseverance.” He pointed out that practical success requires enduring commitment beyond simple inspiration

So, fellow writers, keep going. When the words won’t come, the doors won’t open, and doubt whispers that you should quit, remember that perseverance is part of the calling. Your crown may be waiting just beyond the trial!
