Today, the first Monday of September, we wake up to celebrate Labor Day in the United States and Canada. It started in the late 19th century during the Industrial Revolution.

Workers faced harsh conditions, working 12 hours a day, seven days a week. Labor unions fought for fair pay, safer workplaces, and reasonable hours. The holiday honors the contributions of workers to the country’s strength and prosperity. Thankful for the historical lesson and most thankful for being off today. Thank You, Lord!

And then, others work twice as hard due to some disability. We want to honor them today by acknowledging Superhuman Day. British broadcaster Channel 4 created the day in 2016 during their “We’re The Superhumans” campaign for the Rio Paralympic Games. The purpose of this day is to break down negative labels and treat everyone with equal respect and dignity.

And for all of us bloggers and Internet surfers, today is Google Commemoration Day. Today is an unofficial holiday observed annually on September 7 to recognize the founding, history, and massive digital impact of the search engine and technology giant Google.

Heavenly Father, thank You for this Labor Day—for the gift of rest, for workers who built our communities, and for those who labor courageously through challenges others may never see. Help us honor every person with dignity, compassion, and gratitude. Thank You for the blessings of work, the strength to persevere, and the simple blessing of a day off. Guide us to be grateful, kind, and mindful of all You have placed in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
