Well, dear readers, here we are already halfway through September. I will be so happy when the first brisk wind of Fall blows through the state of Florida. I will probably run into the street and dance as David danced! Perhaps it’s just me, but I don’t remember it ever being this hot in Florida. Yes, we are known for our tropical climate. But this…I don’t know what it is.
Now I see why Greenpeace has always been so important. They had the vision. And today we recognize Greenpeace Day. Greenpeace Day is an annual observance celebrated on September 15th that honors peaceful environmental activism and marks the symbolic founding of the global organization. Your voice matters.
This observance is one of 28 celebrations today, including… Butterscotch Cinnamon Pie Day, Costa Rica Independence Day, Felt Hat Day, International Day of Democracy, National Cheese Toast Day, National Google.com Day, National Online Learning Day, and National Tackle Kids Cancer Day. For the complete list, try on one of our hats.

Tackling kids’ cancer is no easy task. That’s why Danny Thomas had a dream and a vision much larger than his Hollywood accolades. He used his star power to build a vision that would testify to his humanity, not his star power. So, as St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital still battles children’s cancers, never forget to give when you can and how you can.

Speaking of ongoing battles. Please do not forget that today is National Voter Registration Day. Check to ensure you are still registered, and if not, go today. Remember, as President Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “Democracy cannot succeed unless those who express their choice are prepared to choose wisely. The real safeguard of democracy, therefore, is education.” Your voice does matter.
Heavenly Father, thank You for the beauty of Your creation and for those who work to protect it. Give us grateful hearts, compassionate spirits, and the courage to care for our neighbors—especially children facing cancer and families carrying heavy burdens.
Guide us to use our voices and our choices wisely, seeking truth, peace, justice, and the good of others. May our actions reflect Your love and bring hope to a world in need. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
