*Sunday’s Devotion

We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves. Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification. For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me. (Romans 15:1-3 NKJV)

Thought For The Week: There are our kind and their kind in life. And we are reminded by Paul that in the household of God, our differences in spiritual growth are not reasons to be proud but opportunities to love. When you think you’re “strong” sure that you’re free, know what you’re talking about, convinced of your religious faith —it’s pretty easy to scorn someone who’s stumbling over doubts, fears, or stern self-imposed rules. Paul reverses this thinking. No, the truly strong person, the spiritually mature one, is the one who can bear with the meekness of another.

Imagine Jesus. Although He had complete dominion in heaven and on earth, He refused to live for His own benefit. He entered into our weak and broken world, endured our rejection and gave up His life to bring us to life. Today, pray for the heart of a servant. Look around you to the people around you, and even to the ones whose caution or habits irritate you. How can you channel your strength today to encourage someone rather than to indulge yourself?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your patience with me. When I am tempted to be impatient or self-centered, remind me of Your sacrifice. Help me to love my neighbor selflessly and build others up in Your grace today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
