A Voting Day Reminder

A pile of red, white, and blue 'I Voted Today' stickers.

I find it ironic that this time last year I didn’t get around to my monthly post for November until this exact day. And looks like it’s happening again. Perhaps it’s because today is a day that is more important than any of us can fanthom. The day to vote. I’ve heard some people say, “I don’t vote, there is so much garbage going on in our government it doesn’t matter.” Are you serious? These are the people I oftentimes tell “if you didn’t vote — don’t complain.”

I got up this morning listening to “Not by might, not by power, by Your spirit God.” From the famous text Zechariah 4:6. Spoken by the prophet Zechariah to Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, who was leading the Jewish exiles as they returned from Babylon to rebuild the second temple in Jerusalem.

Never have I written a political post because the God I serve carries the government on His shoulder. (Isaiah 9:6 NKJV) And He has all the answers concerning all matters of men. But I do know that when they all became of one mind in that upper room on the Day of Pentacost—And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. (Acts 2:2 NKJV)

And perhaps that today’s message for us. When God’s people come together in unity, with one heart and one purpose, there is no limit to what He can accomplish. Our hope should never soleley rest in the hands of men, political offices, or earthly systems. Our hope must remain in God, who is sovereign over all.

So, yes, exercise your right to vote. Make your voice heard, but never forget where your ultimate trust belongs. We can cast our votes at the ballot box, but our faith must remain anchored in the One who holds tomorrow. For it is not by might, nor by power, but by His Spirit that true change comes.

May we never become so distracted by what is happening around us that we forget Who is still in control above us all. God is not shaken by elections, headlines, or the affairs of men. He is still God, He is still on the throne, and He still has the last word.
