“Be still before the Lord, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.” (Zechariah 2:13)
ZECHARIAH 2 IN ITS ENTIRETY.
Thought For The Week: Stillness isn’t passivity; it’s reverence. This call to be still comes not because God is distant, but because He is moving. Heaven isn’t quiet because nothing is happening—it’s quiet because something holy is about to unfold. When God rises from His dwelling, the right response of humanity is awe, humility, and attention.
We live loud lives—busy, anxious, opinionated, always reaching for control. Yet this verse invites us to lay down our noise and stand in wonder. God does not need our striving to accomplish His purposes. He asks for our trust, our listening, our willingness to pause and recognize that He is at work beyond what we can see.
Stillness places us back in our proper posture. It reminds us that God is God, and we are not. In that space, fear loosens its grip, pride softens, and faith steadies our hearts. When we grow quiet before Him, we make room to witness His power and receive His peace.
Prayer: Lord, teach me to be still before You. Quiet my restless thoughts and my need to control. Help me trust that You are active, present, and faithful. As You move, let my heart respond with reverence and hope. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
