“Blessed be the Lord, who has given rest to His people Israel, according to all that He promised. There has not failed one word of all His good promise, which He promised through His servant Moses. (I Kings 8:56 NKJV)
I KINGS IN ITS ENTIRETY.
Thought For The Week: Have you ever waited on a promise that felt like it would never come true? Perhaps it was a promise made by a person, or maybe a hope you felt God had placed on your heart. In this text, Solomon stands before the congregation of Israel at the pinnacle of his reign, surrounded by the completed Temple, and makes a staggering declaration: “Not one word has failed.”
After centuries of wandering in the wilderness, battles, and uncertainty, Israel was finally experiencing “rest” and peace. Solomon looks back at the history of God’s dealing with them and realizes that every single word God spoke through Moses—from the promise of the land to the blessings of peace—had come to pass.
God is not human, that He should lie or break a promise. Our current, often frantic, lives might make us feel like God’s promises are taking too long, or that His Word doesn’t apply to our present circumstances. But this verse serves as a check to our doubt: God’s track record is perfect.
Today, you can rest in the same faithfulness that Solomon praised. Not one word of His promise has failed in the past, and not one word will fail today.
Prayer: Lord, thank You that You are a Promise-Keeper. When I am tempted to worry or doubt, remind me of Your perfect track record. Thank You that, just as You gave rest to Israel, You offer rest to my soul today. I trust that not one word of Your good promises to me will fail. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
