*Sunday’s Devotion

For the Lord has called you
Like a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit,
Like a youthful wife when you were refused,”
Says your God.
“For a mere moment I have forsaken you,
But with great mercies I will gather you.
(Isaiah 54:6-7 NKJV)

ISAIAH 54 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Thought For Today: Have you ever felt abandoned? Perhaps it wasn’t by a person, but you felt forgotten by God. You looked at your circumstances—a broken relationship, a lost opportunity, a lingering sorrow—and concluded that God had turned His face away.

This text speaks directly to that painful feeling of being “forsaken and grieved in spirit.” In this passage, God uses the imagery of a heartbroken woman to describe how it feels to be separated from Him. It is intense, lonely, and deeply wounding.

Yet, look at the swift turn in verse 7: “For a mere moment I have forsaken you, But with great mercies I will gather you.

God reveals a powerful truth here: His discipline is temporary, but His love is eternal. That “moment” of feeling forsaken might seem long when you are in the middle of it, but in the scope of eternity, it is fleeting. What is not fleeting is His “great compassion.”

When we feel abandoned, we tend to fixate on the silence or the hardship. God invites us to fixate on His character. He is not a husband who rejects his wife forever; He is a Redeemer who gathers us back with tenderness.

If you are feeling forgotten today, know that God sees you not as a discarded thing, but as a beloved one He is calling back. The trial is temporary; His restoration is absolute.

Prayer: Lord, thank You that my past mistakes or current struggles do not define my future. Thank You that even when I feel forsaken, You are actually preparing to show me great compassion. I choose to trust in Your everlasting kindness today, rather than my passing feelings of abandonment. Bring me back into the comfort of Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
