What is a revival?  Whenever the word revival is mentioned, Azusa Street automatically comes to mind. The Azusa Street Revival was a historic revival meeting that took place in Los Angeles, California. It was led by William J. Seymour, an African American preacher. It began with a meeting on April 9, 1906, and continued until roughly 1915.

A true Christian revival defined: Revivalism is increased spiritual interest or renewal in the life of a church congregation or society, with a local, national or global effect. … Revivals are seen as the restoration of the church itself to a vital and fervent relationship with God after a period of moral decline.

The last time my husband and I attended a real revival we were both delivered from cigarette smoking.

And that is one of the things a true revival is supposed to do— transform lives.

In picking up this book, one day in church, I lovingly placed it on the bookshelf of my library.  My thoughts were I’d get to it whenever it hit me.  Well am reading a lot more since doing Christian Book Reviews. You know the saying “Never judge a book by its cover.” Steps to Revival is true to form.

This book is only thirty-two pages.  Never have I read such a power-packed and informative piece of literature.  Written by Pat Robertson, Steps to Revival gives you a six- step plan on how you can have a personal revival in your life. As he lays the ground work, “The revival America is crying for does not consist of good or even inspired evangelism. The revival we pray for transforms lives, empowers pastors, electrifies churches, and brings the reality of God to the entire population.”

This book never loses momentum. You know, some books you read; you lay them down and come back later. This is not one of those. For instance, at step number four in revival is to turn from your wicked ways.  Robertson writes, “A prayer, “Oh God, pardon my sins and transgressions for they are many’ won’t cut it in my opinion.”

On page fourteen he pens, “Petty differences among participants must be put aside along with disputes over fine points of doctrine. Whether someone’s eschatology makes him premillennial, postmillennial or amillennial is of absolutely no consequences if that individual is crying out to God for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit.”

The Epilogue is filled with historic revivals that were started by people in places you just would not believe.

There is a revised issue out now entitled Six Steps to Spiritual Revival: God’s Awesome Power In Your Life and is comprised of 96 pages.

If you’ve been in a spiritual drought lately and you know you need a change to bring about change.  This will definitely help bring you out.
