October is behind us and soon Daylight Savings Day will be too. Don’t forget to set those clocks back! Now most of us are digging around in our dresser drawers for hoodies and in our closets searching for sweaters. Here in Florida, we are enjoying that cooler morning air as we prepare for our Thanksgiving Day festivities. More joggers are out and about. And all the stale air of the past is being swept away as opened windows invite fresh air and new hope. Mickey and Minnie will be celebrating their birthdays; while the snowbirds fly here for the winter. As I have happy thoughts of some super good chili and oyster crackers…yummy!

Although synonymous with Thanksgiving Day and Veterans Day. November has 267 special days of awareness and observances to celebrate, but we only named a few. And out of those 267, there are 35 monthly observations. Such as Family Stories Month, Manatee Awareness Month, Military Family Month, PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month, National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month, National Diabetes Month, National Novel Writing Month, and National Peanut Butter Lovers Month. … World Kindness Week is one that really needs to be remembered.

For all the writers or readers out there today is National Author’s Day. For the believers today All Saints Day is celebrated and tomorrow so is All Souls Day. Let’s not forget Hanukkah. With all that’s happening around the world, World Kindness Week is one that really needs to be remembered. A lot of children are blessed to have parents and live in a home, but many aren’t. When we start that early shopping let’s not forget World Orphans Day.

On a historical note, while we in America celebrate the Marine Corps Birthday and remember Veteran’s Day. Canada marks Remembrance Day. When we are all sitting around that dinner table blessed to still be alive and in a place of so many freedoms, let us not forget those who sacrificed and their families who made those freedoms possible.

A Little November Trivia. The name November originally translates into the “ninth month” in Latin and was the ninth out of ten months of the original Roman Calendar back in 45 BC. Years later when the Julian calendar was adopted two extra months were added and November was pushed back to be the eleventh month of the calendar year.
