July is here already. I feel like this entire year is in warp speed and we are on the USS Enterprise-D going to places no man has ever been before—literally. But on a positive note, I thought we should go by the Holodeck and play a few rounds of golf in celebration of Family Golf Month. Back on earth, in the state of Florida, there are 1,200 golf clubs and over 1,050 golf courses. Making it the state with the most golf courses in the United States. That’s a trivia fact for you.

This month is composed of 119 celebratory days and includes American Zoo Day, Bank Account Bonus Month, International Zine Month, Family Golf Month, Good Care Month, Fragile X Awareness Month, National Cell Phone Courtesy Month, National Family Reunion Month, Hitchhiking Month, National Culinary Arts Month, National Make-A Difference to Children Month, National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, Social Wellness Month, Hemochromatosis Screening And Awareness Month, World Watercolor Month, and Sarcoma Awareness Month, just to name a few. Before your barbequing talents go front and center on the fourth, the grill masters begin celebrating National Grilling Month on the first day of this month. Amid your busy schedule, make a phone call to someone in celebration of National Cousins Day, National Parents’ Day, National Aunt and Uncle Day, and National Father-in-Law Day. Then all of these relatives can get together to celebrate the centerpiece of this month—Independence Day, also known as the Fourth of July. Whew—a day off and a time to reflect.

A time to reflect on what true democracy means. A time to reflect on the lives that were lost for this red, white, and blue. A time to reflect—Is this really one nation under God indivisible with liberty and justice for all?

A little July trivia: The first fireworks were used as early as 200 BC. The tradition of setting off fireworks on the 4th of July began in Philadelphia on July 4, 1777, during the first organized celebration of Independence Day. The ship’s cannon fired a 13-gun salute in honor of the 13 colonies.
