Sunday’s Devotion

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. (Matthew 6:19-20 NKJV)

MATTHEW 6 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Thought For The Week: In a world obsessed with possessions, wealth, and status, Jesus’ words cut through the noise with the above text. This isn’t just advice—it’s a call to a different kind of riches. One that endures beyond the fleeting. One that aligns with eternal purpose.

Earthly treasures are temporary. They can be lost in an instant—through theft, decay, or disaster. Moths eat cloth, rust corrodes metal, and thieves steal what we cherish. Our possessions can vanish overnight, leaving us empty-handed and empty-hearted. Why invest in what is perishable? Why build treasures that can be stolen or destroyed? Jesus reminds us: these are not lasting. They are shadows that fade.

Heavenly treasures are different. They are secure in God’s eternal kingdom. When we invest in acts of love, charity, faith, and obedience, we lay up treasures that cannot be taken away. These treasures—souls saved, kindness shown, faith nurtured—are stored in heaven’s vaults. They grow and multiply, untouched by decay or theft.

Focusing on heavenly treasures shifts our perspective. It frees us from the anxiety of material loss. It aligns our hearts with God’s eternal plan. Remember, what we store up in heaven is the only treasure that truly lasts. It is the legacy that echoes into eternity.

Choose wisely. Invest in what endures. Lay up treasures in heaven—where moths, rust, and thieves cannot destroy. Your eternal reward awaits, beyond the fleeting allure of earth’s riches.

Seek first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness. All these things shall be added unto you.
