The Chosen Adventures

Season 1

“I will go with you Eema to make sure we don’t buy any of Sheep’s friends.”

Synopsis: A 9-year-old Abby and her friend Joshua meet Jesus in Capernaum. Abby is full of questions, seeking answers. When they encounter Jesus things change.

While perusing my streaming accounts was trying to find something fresh and new for both children and adults. Behold! I came across Season 1 comprised of 14 episodes of the Chosen Adventures. An animated spinoff of the live-action Christian historical drama television series The Chosen. This not only kept my interest but gave a different perspective on biblical lessons that were simple enough for not only adults to understand, but also children.

Although possessing a claymation-like aesthetic, it was not over done—just the right theatircal touch. It kind of reminded me of a Disney framework in that the main character, Abby, a very rambunctuous and curious sort is accompanied by 2 proteges—a rebellious sheep, who left the “ninety-nine” looking for love called Sheep and a one-legged pigeon known as Pigeon who manages to bail Sheep out of a trap where they forge a peculiar friendship. Two comical sidekicks that interact with each in such a humorous way—they can understand each other but the adults can’t, which is a complimentary contradiction.

Sheep is more of the mischievous one, while Pigeon adds more of a wise and witty adult point of view to the storyline. Abby also has Joshua, her bestfriend who seems to be afraid of his own shadow and also an if no one else is left, Roman playmate by the name of Hilarius Maximus who lives up to that name. Her parents, Abba and Eema are forever trying to lead her in the right direction teaching her life lessons as parents often do.

Jesus doesn’t appear in every episode, but when he does, he is more of a mentor, teacher. Always putting a postive spin on the things Abby finds so inquisitve, negative or boring. A source of love, encouragement and understanding for all those who come in touch with Him.

What I found interesting were the timeframes of each episode which is roughly 12 minutes. This coincides with the average attention span of a child. But in these 12 minutes the main story points are never lost. Everything from Episode 1, “Jesus Loves the Little Children (and Their Parents, Too–Here Jesus emphasizes the importance of children listening to their parents as well as parents listening to their children. To Episode 7, “Rocky Ground” a good lesson about judging others.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Usually on my movie reviews I give you a spoiler, but in this case you’ll have to see these episodes and form your own opinion. I believe for the younger generation, they will find this interesting, educational and fun. I know I did!
