The feast commemorates a 13th-century apparition to St. Simon Stock, during which she presented the Brown Scapular, a devotional garment signifying her protection. The origins of this devotion are tied to Mount Carmel in Israel, the site where the prophet Elijah defended the faith in the Old Testament. Today, the feast is marked by special liturgical celebrations, the enrollment of the faithful in the Brown Scapular, and vibrant community festivals worldwide.
