Well, it’s Thursday, August 20, 2026- whoooo, my Friday! It’s 6:53 am here in overcast Land O Lakes, Florida. Someone asked me, “Is that the place that is on the butter wrapper?” I told them, “No, we don’t make butter here, but there are more than 100 lakes, with historical accounts specifically noting at least 50 major lakes packed densely within an 18-square-mile area”—enough with the geographical lesson.
Today, August boasts some 8 celebrations, which include the Anniversary of the Revolution of the King and the People, Hungary National Day, National Bacon Lovers Day, National Chocolate Pecan Pie Day, and World Mosquito Day.

Would you believe today is National Radio Day? National Radio Day is celebrated annually on August 20 to honor the invention of the radio, its profound impact on mass communication, and the role local stations and personalities play in daily life. Radio served as a lifeline during major historical events, from Franklin D. Roosevelt‘s “fireside chats” to the broadcast of Neil Armstrong‘s first words from the moon.

On a more somber note. Today is also the recognition of St. Stephen’s Day Hungary. This is Hungary’s official national day celebrated every year on August 20. It marks the foundation of the Hungarian state and honors King Stephen I, the country’s first king and patron saint, who established Christian Hungary over 1,000 years ago. August 20 specifically marks the date in 1083 when King Stephen was canonized by Pope Gregory VII.
Lord, thank You for the blessings of creation, the rich history of the world around us, and the gift of communication that connects us. Today, we especially remember the legacy of faith passed down through generations, thanking You for early leaders like King Stephen who stood for Your truth. As we go through this day, grant us peace, strength, and a heart full of gratitude. May our words and actions bring honor to Your name, and may Your love guide our steps into the weekend ahead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Actually, Land ‘O Lakes butter is named for the land of the lakes region of Minnesota where the company was founded in the early part of the 20th century. I don’t recall the exact year.
This is one of millions of almost worthless factoids I have collected in my seven decades.😏
I don’t know which came first, though, for being called the land of the lakes. However, I imagine Florida named it first, but just neglected to copy-write it.
