Fearless Friday

Forgive me, dear readers. Today, your faithful friend overslept. Instead of decaf coffee, maybe I need to stop by the nearest Kool-Aid stand, since today is National Kool Aid Day. Haven’t had that drink in what seems like 100 years! The sugar rush alone would probably wake me up and cool me off. LOL.

National Kool-Aid Day is an annual festival usually celebrated during the second weekend of August in Hastings, Nebraska, where Edwin Perkins invented the iconic powdered drink in 1927. The 2026 festival took place from August 14–16, featuring a grand parade, free Kool-Aid stands, and family activities. The city also hosts a “Miss Kool-Aid Days” pageant, yard games, museum exhibits, and unique treats like fried Kool-Aid.

Fried Kool-Aid? Never heard of such a thing. But I have heard that there are only 9 celebrations today, which include National Brazilian Blowout Day, National Men’s Grooming Day, National Report Upcoding Fraud Day, National Senior Citizens Day, National Spumoni Day, and Ninoy Aquino Day.

For you techies out there, today is Internet Self-Care Day. This unofficial annual observance, held on August 21, encourages people to use online tools, apps, and resources to support their mental, emotional, and physical health, while also reflecting on their digital habits to make screen time more positive and healthy.

On this day, let us not forget the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism. This special day was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2017. It designated 21 August as the International Day of Remembrance and Tribute to the Victims of Terrorism to honor the victims and survivors of terrorism.

In 2017 alone, nearly three-quarters of all deaths caused by terrorism were in just five countries:  AfghanistanIraqNigeriaSomalia, and Syria. According to a statement by the UN, the day is meant to allow victims of terrorism to have their needs supported and their rights upheld.

Dear Lord, forgive me for my shortcomings and help me begin this day with a grateful heart. Watch over those who are hurting, especially the victims and survivors of terrorism. Fill us with Your peace, compassion, and love, and guide us to be a light to others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
