Gracious is the Lord, and righteous;
Yes, our God is merciful.
(Psalm 116:5 NKJV)

PSALM 116 IN ITS ENTIRETY.

Thought For The Week: Life often pulls us in opposite directions. We are told to be strong, yet we feel weak. We strive for perfection, yet we stumble into mistakes. In a world that demands we earn our keep and pay for our failures, this psalm offers a beautiful, comforting breath of fresh air about our Creator’s character.

Look closely at how God balances Himself. He is gracious, giving us blessings we could never earn. He is righteous, meaning He is perfectly just, holy, and true. Sometimes, human righteousness can feel rigid or cold. But the psalmist immediately pairs God’s righteousness with a beautiful truth: Yes, our God is merciful.

His justice ensures that truth matters, but His mercy ensures that you are loved, forgiven, and held. God does not look at your brokenness with condemnation. Instead, He looks at you through the lens of grace. When you feel like you aren’t enough, His mercy steps in to bridge that gap. You don’t have to perform for Him; you only need to rest in Him.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for being both just and deeply merciful. When I stumble, remind me of Your grace. Help me to rest in Your love today, knowing that Your righteousness is my shield and Your mercy is my comfort. Amen.
