But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
(Isaiah 53:5 NKJV)

Thought for the Day: Christ was wounded. Not were just his head crowned with thorns, his hands, feet and side pierced; but he was mentally wounded and in the end mortally wounded. This cause, for which He voluntarily suffered, was for our sins—because He was without sin. Being bruised, like a reed; crushed inwardly and outwardly; tormented. This chastisement, or correction for our guilt, He bore that we could find reconciliatory peace with God. The stripes he received upon his back (see Mt 27:26; 1Peter 2:24) on a whipping post, as He was scourged—is the reason we are spiritually healed, or healed from sins and its effects. The removal of the burden of sin is personified as an act of healing. (see Psalm 6:2, Psalm 41:4, and Psalm 103:3)

Prayer: Dear God, I humbly come before You today in appreciation for all that you have done for me. Thank you Jesus for Your sacrifice, so that I may be reconciled to God and set free from the bondage of sin. Thank You for enduring so much suffering on my behalf. I pray that I will have the same kind of strength to endure life, for Your sake. In Your name I pray. Amen.
