Peggy I am so glad you enjoyed this post. And thank you so much for stopping by. Be and stay…
Monday evening Bobbie and I were in Walgreens picking up a few things when he got away from me and went to this young man standing in line and tried talking to him. Bobbie always tries talking to strangers even though he can barely get any words out. Most of the time they are understanding, but occasionally some are not so nice. Anyway, I apologized to the young man and explained that Bobbie had been diagnosed with Dementia. To which the young man kept saying “it’s no problem.”
We left the store and were in the car—I was buckling Bobbie’s seatbelt when that young man pulled up and said he commended me on what I was doing concerning Bobbie’s care as he knew it was a tremendous task for one person. Then he began telling me how his father had Dementia and they took care of him for as long as they could until they had to put him in a memory care facility where he fell, bumped his head, ended up in a hospital, then hospice, and finally, passed away.
He got out of his jeep and gave me a hug.
The young man said that when Bobbie walked up to him in the shopping line he reminded him of his father. At which point I began crying and he had tears in his eyes. He got out of his jeep and gave me a hug. Something I really needed that day for it had been quite challenging, to say the least.
And he went on telling me about all of the different support groups he’d been in and how he wished he could have spent more time with his father and how he wished he could tell me things were going to get better but…at which point Bob managed to, somehow, get out of the car and I had to attend to him. I told the young man “He follows me everywhere I go.” The young man said, “I understand.” Got back into his jeep and drove away.
That evening God showed me He is always there. Maybe not in the form we think or imagine but He sent me a hug through a stranger who showed compassion to Bobbie and me when we needed it most. Now more than before I believe the words God spoke, that I have on the screensaver of my cellphone and see every day, “So do not fear, for I am with you, do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10)
You never know what people are going through…
You never know what people are going through or what they’ve been through. Unless God reveals it to you or that person tells you themselves. In any case, as that young man treated me so should we treat others. Because at any given moment…The shoe could be on the other foot. Is it not written? “Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 7:12 KJV)
It doesn’t cost us anything to be kind. By doing so you could be rescuing someone from their pit of despair or better yet their destruction. You never know. Yet at the same time, you are sowing seed in good ground. Unwind—be kind. Make your personal space, your spirit, soul, and body, a fit habitation for the Holy Spirit. He will not and cannot inhabit places that are unclean or hostile. And who knows, you just might get a hug from an unexpected place when you really need it!

I know how difficult your journey is. My mother-in-law had Alzheimers for over 10 years before she passed. I saw the journey from very close perspective. You are one of God’s angels that walks among us!
Sending prayers of strength and love for you and Bobbie! ❤
