A Quick Check-In

Just doing a quick check-in. What have we, as bloggers and writers, achieved in the first month of this new year? How many blank pages have you turned into something meaningful? Have you come up with any fresh ideas that have you scribbling notes or typing away furiously?

If you want to end up somewhere different, you have to explore new paths—your imagination offers endless possibilities to do just that.

On my end, I’m happy to report that I finished writing the blurb for the back cover of my upcoming book. I’m also juggling three other projects: I’m currently on page 14 of one, re-edited a few pages on another, and have been jotting down notes for a third manuscript.

A question I am often asked is how I find the time to make these small steps forward. My answer is simple: as I’ve shared before in this section on my website, “Enjoy the process, appreciate the journey, and remember that success isn’t about how fast you reach your goals—it’s about the persistence and effort you put in along the way.”

There’s no secret formula—It boils down to discipline and hard work. If you not willing to be diligent—rolling up those shirt sleeves and getting busy…

Let me put it another way—writing is a lot like a refrigerator…whatever you put in it—is what you get out of it. If you put the right foods in you get a healthy diet that causes you to be in better health with a sharp frame of mind and self-confidence. It you put in junk food then through time you will find yourself in poor health, a clouded mind with a lack of confidence.

People on the outside think there’s something magical about writing, that you go up in the attic at midnight and cast the bones and come down in the morning with a story, but it isn’t like that. You sit in back of the typewriter and you work, and that’s all there is to it.”Harlan Ellison
