For the past week we have heard many memorable Christmas songs. But the one that has been a resounding constant, these past few days, is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Although humming most of the song, the one line that stuck foremost in my mind was “Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day”
As Christmas fastly approaches, I find myself trying to rally; from this 0 to 15 score; while serving across the net of catchy titles and subject matter. Everything from Christ Not Capitalism to And There Was No Room at the Inn comes to mind. But these subjects have been written and re-written numerous times, no matter how many spins you put on them. And too much English on the ball will certainly place it out of bounds.
Staying within the baselines, the true subject matter involves the real First Family. They were not in the White House—no they were in a stable. The King of Kings did not have a coronation, in Westminster Abbey, with all the pomp and circumstance. No, His birth and title were announced by angels; to lowly shepherds in the fields keeping watch over their flocks by night. (Luke 2:8) Hark, the herald angels sing glory to the new born king!
Amid all of the holiday hysteria my objective is to serve my readers an ace through their service box. Reminding them of the true reason for all the hustle and bustle, tree decorations, presents and family get togethers.
For the past week we have heard many memorable Christmas songs. But the one that has been a resounding constant, these past few days, is God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. Although humming most of the song, the one line that stuck foremost in my mind was “Remember Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day”
Luke gives an account on this wise:
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: “BEHOLD, THE VIRGIN SHALL BE WITH CHILD AND SHALL BEAR A SON, AND THEY SHALL CALL HIS NAME IMMANUEL,” which translated means, “GOD WITH US.” (Matthew 1:22-23)
You see, the greatest gift ever given any of us is not the most expensive bauble, designer perfume, bestselling toy or computer gadget. No, it was and is the King of Kings, who from humble origins transformed the bodies, minds and spirits of many who were lost in sin and had no hope. … old things are passed away; behold, all things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

A walking miracle---her spiritual journey began at seven years old, when she was baptized by the late, Pastor K.L. Moore, Jr., of the First Baptist Church in Frankfort, Kentucky, her birthplace. Very thankful for her spiritual upbringing which gave her a strong foundation and a respect for the word of God. Which now affords her the opportunity to share His word with others and testify about His saving her from leukemia.
She is the mother of six, a cancer survivor, pastor, and previous newspaper editor. Has published articles in The Voice In The Wilderness Magazine and a poem published in Great Poems of the Western World. She along with her husband, Elder Bobby Leach, live in Land O Lakes, Florida.
