Part 2
Last week we were discussing the scripture “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) and what it meant. As we continue will will discuss, in depth, the meaning of this specific text…
This is a command for those involved in a battle to cease fighting, to be still.
Be still. This is a command for those involved in a battle to cease fighting, to be still. The Hebrew word rapa, translated as “be still” in this verse means to “cease, let drop, be weak, or slacken.” It does not mean to sit and be quiet as most Christians may think. It denotes two people fighting until they are separated by a neutral entity that makes them concede their weapons. Then the warriors can acknowledge their trust in God only after the battle has stopped. For God’s people being “still” would mean surrendering the battle to the LORD (cf. 2 Chronicles 20:15); for God’s enemies, being “still” would mean ceasing to fight a battle they cannot possibly win.
…he is fighting God.

This is why the scriptures teach us to just stand. (cf. Ephesians 6:10-13) Because when you stand in righteousness the enemy is not fighting you—he is fighting God. Who holds all power of heaven and earth in his hands. Who has never lost a battle or a soul; even with the most remote odds. In the New Testament Jesus states, ” And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” (cf. John 10:28)
“…and know that I am God…” In this biblical context “know” means to acknowledge Him. Acknowledging Him as not only God but as he told Moses, ” And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH (Yahweh) was I not known to them. (cf. Exodus 6:3). JEHOVAH is power over every aspect of our lives. And with this revelation, we should have the confidence in knowing Who we serve.
Thank you all so much for your continued readership and support. Stay tuned for the conclusion next week…Blessings and Peace!
