The Weight of the Wait

During my recent prayer time, the phrase The Inbetween Time, the title of my new project, resonated deeply within me. It made me reflect on what happens after we receive a word from the Lord and before its manifestation. It’s the waiting period, the time in between, that truly tests our faith and patience.

Immediately, I could hear David. “I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!” (Psalm 27:13-14 NKJV)

As I delved into the scriptures, I found numerous examples of individuals who had to wait for God’s promises to be fulfilled. Take Abraham, for instance. The Lord promised him a son when he was already 75 years old. (Genesis 15:4-5 NKJV) He felt the weight of Sarah’s impatience when she sent him into Haggai’s tent. (Genesis 16:1-4 NKJV) It wasn’t until he was 100 that Isaac was born. Abraham had to wait 25 long years for God’s promise to be fulfilled. (Genesis 21:4-5 NKJV)

Then there’s Caleb, who waited for 45 years to inherit the land that God had promised him. Despite the challenges and obstacles he faced, and although Caleb felt the weight of the unbelievers in the wilderness, he remained faithful and unwavering in his belief that God would fulfill His promise. (Numbers 14:20-24 NKJV) (Joshua 14:10-13 NKJV)

What do these stories have to do with us? They serve as a reminder that God’s timing is perfect, even when we may not understand it. The waiting period is a time of growth, during which we learn to trust in God’s faithfulness and provision. It’s a time to strengthen our faith and reliance on Him.

So, if you find yourself in the in-between time, you might feel the weight of many temptations, such as impatience and unbelief. However, in this waiting for God’s promises to come to pass, take heart. Be of good courage, for He will strengthen your heart. Wait on the Lord with patience and unwavering faith, knowing that He is faithful to fulfill His promises in His perfect timing. Trust in Him, for He is faithful and true.

But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
(Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)
