Yesterday morning, I had the distinct pleasure of unexpectedly attending a prayer breakfast. I knew I was going to hear one of our church’s ministers, Daria Dixon, speak, but had no idea what the setting would be.
We found ourselves among intercessors and other believers. I met an old friend, Ms. Mary, who just happened to be the one putting on this prayer breakfast. One that I hadn’t seen in years. Who was a former member of our church. Also saw recent acquaintances and even made some new ones. Other members from our church came, so Minister Dixon had her own cheerleading section. As her mother so eloquently put it.

The theme of this breakfast was “Shine In The Midst Of The Storm.” We had forms that we could check off the things we wanted to let go of…you know, those things that so easily beset us? Then they were shredded so that we, in faith, would never return to them again. We were also encouraged by the first speaker to let go of unforgiveness and to repent for it. Because we cannot walk in the fullness of what God has called us to be if unforgiveness is in our backpack on this journey. She went off script and shifted her sermon, and in this shift, the Holy Spirit began moving in the room.
The sermons were woven with testimonies about each woman’s life. The word says…And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. (Revelation 12:11 KJV) Through tears, applause, and testimonies, one thing remained constant. Both speakers were heartfelt. They were adamant about saving souls. Which is the Great Commission.

We, as women of God, were reminded of something. We all have a story to tell. Which is part of God’s plan. After all, He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. Sometimes our stories may get a little messy and don’t always end the way we’d like. But out of this messiness, there is a message of His love and eternal salvation that we should pull from to help others who may be in that exact situation now or may find themselves in the future. It is God who gets the glory.
And no matter where we might find ourselves, Minister Dixon reminded us, In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. (John 16:33 KJV)

My takeaway from this auspicious occasion? In this dark and dying world, we must let our lights shine so that men might see our good works and glorify our Father, which is in heaven. (Matthew 5:16 KJV) No matter where we might find ourselves in our life stories, God is in the details- He’s always there. Tell the truth about God’s transformation of your life. For it is in this truth that people are set free.
If I can do my duty, as all men ought
If I can bring that duty to a world that’s lost
If I can spread a love message that the Master taught
Then my living shall not be in vain
