Rhemalogy

By now my readers have probably surmised the majority of my constituents are of the spiritual persuasion. Which, I have found to be a blessing. Especially in the revelatory knowledge they share.

I have a very dear friend by the name of Shirley. When we talk the conversation always reverts to God’s word in some form or fashion. The other day while on the phone, she made a very profound statement, as we were discoursing the subject of faith. She said, “You can’t stand on a form.” Referring to the scripture that says “…having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away.” (2 Timothy 3:5 NKJV)

That statement stuck with me and while cooking I began thinking about how concrete is poured. They put stakes down, dig a certain depth in the soil, and build the form usually for a building foundation, or sidewalk. The concrete is then poured, has to set and cure before it can be built upon or walked on.

Funny thing, you can stand in the form, but not on it. Why? because the concrete has not yet been poured and if you are just standing on soil, depending on the moisture content, you could get stuck in the mud or even begin to sink. But once that concrete is poured and cured you can stand on it with an assurance it is strong and stable enough to hold you up.

That is why Jesus said, “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:24-27 NKJV)

So you see Shirley’s statement is true. As believers, we cannot stand on the pretense of knowing God’s Word. We must not only know that word, but we must also know the God of that Word, and then apply His word daily in our lives; to be able to stand on it. Thereby building a strong foundation; with the assurance, we will not fall, sink, or be swept away by life’s storms.
