Part I
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (Isaiah 49:31 NKJV)

Today we are going to visit 2 Kings Chapter 7. Here we are reminded the children of Israel are surrounded by the Syrian army. Sometimes in life, we feel like Chicken Little—life is falling on our heads and we are surrounded by insurmountable odds, but as Elisha told his servant. “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them.” (2 Kings 6:16 NKJV) It is in these earthquake moments that we must remember two things…One, God promised never to leave us nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5 NKJV), and two, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 6:31 NKJV)

Then Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’ So an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And he said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” (2 Kings 7:1-2 NKJV) The word of the Lord had gone out from the mouth of the prophet yet immediately the enemy came to snatch it away. We must be cautious to remember what Jesus spoke concerning the sower—“When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, then the wicked one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the wayside.” (Matthew 13:19 NKJV) We must make sure that when we hear God’s word we have an understanding of what that word means—the revelation of it.

Remember when Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 16:13-17 NKJV) And because that officer in 2 Kings did not have an understanding of God’s word the prophet let him know that he would see the manifestation of God’s word but would not be party to it. It is a sad state of affairs when we are in the midst of God’s word and yet not able to partake of that blessing. Simply because we did not have the right understanding. Is it not written…
Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalm 1:1-3 NKJV)
